The purpose of the Zoning Boards of Appeals’ ordinances is in part to promote health, safety, general welfare, protect property values, and secure safety from confusion. The decisions surrounding this relocation of the homeless shelter from 77 Winter Street to 460 West Main Street have been anything but clear and transparent. We demand answers to all our questions including:  

The decision of the Zoning Board of Appeals will rely heavily on the legal question of the Dover Amendment and its exemption for educational and religious organizations. We encourage NANN supporters to come to the Zoning Board of Appeal Hearing prepared to speak from the heart and mind how the relocation will impact the West Main community. This could include the proximity to schools, senior housing, and beloved small businesses.

  • The verified backgrounds of those utilizing the shelter? 

  • Where do they go, if the shelter is full? 

  • Why are they forced to leave at 7AM? 

  • Where do they go after 7AM? 

  • Why was zoning bypassed in the permitting process? 

  • Why were solutions not sought decades ago when complaints surfaced?
